Outdoor Meetings for 2021
The following events are scheduled, but some details may change. Please check this page in the run-up to events or confirm by emailing the organiser of each meeting.
Most meetings will last 2-3 hours, but please email the organiser if you require more exact timings.
The events are free to members, but there will be a £2.00 fee for non-members.

Spring Migrants at Hengistbury Head
A morning’s birdwatching walk on Hengistbury Head for Spring highlights. Meet at 8.30am at the Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre.
Duration 2.5 hours with the option to leave earlier if wished. This event will be organised with the Rule-of-6 in mind – one leader/and five attendees in single groups. Each group will follow in turn around the route, a few minutes’ apart. To register, please email Nick Whitehouse. CHOG intends restricting this opening event to a maximum of four such small groups, allowing for 20 attendees plus CHOG leaders.

The New Forest
A morning’s walk for some Forest specialities. Meet at Shatterford car park at 8:00am. Duration 3 hours. More details to follow.

Keyhaven and Pennington Marsh

Durlston Country Park, Swanage
This is a two-part event. A ringing demonstration by the Stour Ringing Group will be carried out from 07:00 to 08:45; then from 09:00, prompt, to 11:30, there will be a guided walk to search out migrant birds along the coastal area. You are welcome to arrive at any time before 09:00 and take part in just one or both of the parts. This year also includes the opening of a new bird hide at Hengistbury Head – a chance to see the hide and acknowledge those who have made it possible. The morning will run as follows.
06:30 to 10:00: Ringing demonstration at the Hengistbury Head Centre (HHC)
09:30 to 11:00: Guided walk, ending at the hide in the Nursery
11:00: Opening and a chance to see the hide

Autumn Migration over Land and Sea at Hengistbury Head.
Two bird-watching activities in one morning – a visible-migration watch and a sea watch – as passerines and sea birds move along the south coast past our headland.
We will start with a visible-migration watch of finches and other passerine from the top of the steps at the eastern end of Hengistbury. Then later, move down to the beach to check-out what’s passing at sea.
The event will start at 7:45 and finish around 11:30, but please feel free to arrive late or leave early. Please dress for the prevailing weather and maybe bring a flask and snacks. To register, please email Nick Whitehouse…
Several members have asked about car sharing on outdoor meetings. Where possible we will be pleased to arrange this for a limited number of places on each occasion. Please contact Nick Whitehouse well in advance of each meeting, so that numbers and pick up locations can be organised. Otherwise the RV will be as indicated on the website.
